TSUNAMI PROJECTS - Dutch Bar - Batticaloa

Distribution of Books and stationery to School children in Dutch Bar, Batticaloa Date- August 2006.

Dutch Bar is an outlying coastal location in Eastern Sri Lanka. It is home to a striving community of 180 families, tragically reduced from its previous number of 264 families as a result of the December 2004 tsunami that ravaged this region.

The resilient and peaceful people of Dutch Bar have since struggled to rebuild their lives and what little recovery they have made up to now can be attributed as much to charity as to their collective resolve.

Disrupted livelihoods and scarce resources continue to afflict the day to day life of the community, given rise to increasing difficulty and hardship for parents and guardians alike to provide adequately for their children's education.
